Anthrachinones

Anthraquinones cause irritation of the intestinal mucosa and loose bowel movements 6 to 8 hours after contact with intestinal bacteria. Over long periods of time, this results in a loss of minerals. This in turn can lead to intestinal hypomobility, cardiac arrhythmias and osteoporosis. Chinese herbs containing anthraquinones should not be used over a prolonged period of time.
