Aristolochic acid

Aristolochic acid acts nephrotoxically and carcinogenically, thus attacking the kidneys and possibly causing cancer. It is thought that aristolochic acid accumulates in the body and thus builds up to toxic amounts. The herbs of the plant family Aristolochiaceae are affected. LIAN does not stock these products. Substitutes, which look similar, are tested for aristolochic acid by LIAN for safety reasons.
