mo gu

Mo gu, 蘑菇, Agaricus Bisporus, the common button mushroom, is well known from the kitchen or from sheep pastures. It is one of the world's three most important cultivars, along with the oyster mushrrom and the shiitake. Li Shizhen (1518-1593) described it in the Ben Cao Gang Mu, one of the first critical works on Chinese herbal medicine. Cool in temperature and sweet in taste, it tonifies the Wei Qi, moisturises dryness, transforms dampness and phlegm and clears heat.
